ac is a must
It's a necessity to who, old people in care homes? I lived in Irvine and MV, both lay across the freeway, and I have never had to turn on my AC. Maybe 3-5 degrees really gets to your super sensitive skin. Maybe it's all in your head. Who knows?

But the actual temp differences between the three cities you listed is very small.

AC is a must for me. I hate heat. The farther you get from the water, the worse it gets. I drive a lot for work and when I go from an inland OC city to a beach city, it sure feels like a lot more than 5 degrees cooler at the beach in the summer.

When you live by the beach, you acclimate.......I can hardly stand to leave this area during warmer months......it's just too hot.

I was raised near Sacramento. I can't handle that area in the summer anymore, not even for a visit.

I've had friends in Irvine, Lake Forest, Mission Viejo, Laguna Hills and still do.......they all have a/c.

Yeah, it's psychological. Very interesting though.

lived here 20 years. Never go to beach anymore, its too polluted. After you've been to the beaches in costa rica, you'll know what I mean!

I don't think it's psychological at all. My nerve endings and sweat glands tell me otherwise.
Driving from Irvine Center Drive all the way to the end, (name change to Moulton and later, Golden Lantern), which ends at the harbor.....there is definitely a difference and not just a couple of degrees....

I have a condo in the Long Beach marina and my dad has a house about 5-6 miles inland. During the heat of summer, there's about a 20 degree temp difference between my condo and my dad's house... if its 90 degrees at my dad's house, its 70 at my condo (or less). The on-shore breeze makes all the difference in the world.

When I lived at my condo, I used to jog/bike along the beach at least several times a week. Its sooo nice to have a bike/walk path that runs through the beach for miles on end. I miss that soooo much! I agree with the previous poster who said that living near or at the beach is a way of life.

No it's psychological. Science says it's only 3-6 degrees. Your brain says otherwise.

On average. Real life says parts of MV, especially in the area of the La Paz curve, can be one of the hottest parts of the county on occasion. I've seen it, I've felt it, and I've been grateful for the A/C on those occasions.

But we get it, if you don't think it's hot, nobody else should. You remind me of my grandfather.

You remind me of my ex-wife.
