There's a good BBQ restaurant in Compton called bludso's that I want to try out. All my friends are raving about this place and the food is really good. I was wondering how many OCers have been to Compton and has ever eaten at Bludso's?

Is it bad like it is portrayed in the media and popular culture and is it safe to drive around nighttime?

I've been to Compton, Inglewood...Crenshaw/Normandie and have eaten at several establishments in the daytime and felt perfectly safe. That said, I'm not driving in any of those neighborhoods at night.

Compton's not to bad in the daylight. Particularly the area around the 91.

I used to run a sales route in Compton/Inglewood/South central in the early 90's. I was in by 7am and out by 2pm, before alot of the bangers were even awake. Do not go there at night. Try this place out for lunch.

I hate when the people who live behind the Orange Curtain....

1) never leave that God-forsaken place which lacks culture/diversity/sense of reality
2) act as if there is no crime in the OC
3) act as if Los Angeles is a war zone

The Skinheads/NeoNazis (and Investment Bankers) in OC scare me (and my bank account)...

I hate it when people in LA

1) Never come in to god's country in OC and look down there noses at it.
2) Act as if there are no bad parts of LA
3) act as if someone talking about bad parts of LA are talking about the whole city.

I'd rather run into a bunch of investment bankers at night then some of the Bloods or Crips who frequent the Compton/ South Central area.

I have worked in the OC and I have relatives and friends that live in the OC.

The ignorance and bias that many OCers have regarding Los Angeles is staggering.

My earlier post comments were, of course, a little tongue-in-cheek. But the truth is that many people in the OC actually DO think that ALL of LA is a crime-ridden ghetto. And unfortunately, a lot of Orange County is pretty homogenous and lacks culture and diversity...."flavor".

And one thing that many OCers deny is that one is just as likely to run into an Asian gang, Skinhead/NeoNazi or Mexican Mafia in the OC as they are to run into a Crip or Blood in LA.

Right back at you. The ignorance and biases many LA folks have about OC is just as prevalent.

And while I would never say all or even most or even alot of LA is a crime ridden ghetto or that OC is crime & gang free you can not even compare the level of gang activity and crime between LA - particularly the city proper and the South Central area - and OC.

Lastly, I don't know what part of OC your friends are in, but I'd stack up the diversity and multi cultural credentials of my hometown of Irvine against just about any geography in the country. And even when I lived in Huntington Beach, I think I saw real neo nazi types like twice in the 3 years I was there - which is like 1/10 of the number of times I saw banger looking kids in the same time frame.

I've been!!! I wouldn't go at night, but I'm a girl :-) The bulletproof glass in the Jack in the box to order my chicken sandwich freaked me out...so yes, it is not such a great neighborhood but as long as you dont look at anyone funny during the day, you should be fine.
