Would like to live in Oregon - any sun there?

Salem is a very family oriented city. It is the state capitol so state jobs are huge here (45,000 or so). I think Salem Hospital is the next largest employer after that. Salem is cheaper than Eugene or Portland, and there are several small town surrounding it that are less expensive as well. It all depends on what type of work you are looking for and how you define affordability.

We enjoy the sun in the Eastern portion of the state. The weather can be more dynamic; with all four seasons being wonderful. The cost of living is also lower. Skiing is great, and the summer fishing isn't shabby either. All the big game hunters come here as well. Best of luck

Not quite right - Klamath Falls has more sun than either Medford and Bend.

EDIT: most of the cities east of the Cascades are much colder in winter and not quite as hot in summer. So if you don;t want to deal with snow, stay on the flats to the west of the Cascades.

I've lived in Portland all my life, there's not much activities for a 23 year old but it's a beautiful, VERY clean, outdoorsy type of city with great food too. We have 4 seasons but sometimes it seems like 3 (not usually warm spring weather, still rainy but beautiful flowers etc.) we don't get a lot of snow unless you go to the mountains, maybe snows on average 2-3 times per year maybe less. There is a lot of rain but that's why it's so green here. We have HOT summers, last summers we had over 100 degree weather it was unbearable..

Also, compared to Seattle, much cleaner, less crime, less city/night life/things to do, more modern hippies, warmer weather, less rain, less cloudy, more nature and outdoor activities, sports..

If you are looking for sun in oregon,more than 2~3 months out of the year? Good luck,no chance on this side of the mountain. You want eastern oregon,ontario, bend,umatilla

I would say there are four tiers. From cloudiest to sunniest:

1. the coast
2. the Willamette Valley
3. the Rogue Valley
4. the Bunchgrass Empire (east of the Cascades)

After a few years on the southern coast, I'm amazed by how sunny and dry Eugene and Portland feel by comparison.
