Hello

Just wondering if anyone has experience with Dr Horton Homes. I see that they have a new development in North Albany and I am wondering about the quality of their homes and reputation.

Thanks!

Here's an article that touches on the quality of their homes. they are on the NYSE, so clearly their homes are mass produced. That does not exactly lend itself to quality. If you research you will find that they have a long history of consumer complaints.

Better you should buy an older home and modernize it yourself, or find a reputable, local contractor.

Thanks for link. I'd wondered about the mass production element. From the outside and the description they are aesthetically appealing.

Well, townhouses they built in Newberg are two stories, over a garage. What would be a logical place for the water heater and furnace? The garage, you say? Absolutely. But in these houses, those two items are in the ATTIC!!!
I like to build and remodel a bit, so my interest was piqued by them. I was flabbergasted at this.

DR. Horton is an entry level builder and they make their money building lots of them. You get large home at discount prices, therefore the finish level is cheap. The construction level is like all the others, it takes many people, supplies and skill to build a house. In the process there are many things that could go wrong. Take any builder out there and some buyer will have problems and when you build nationwide with those numbers you can have more problems. As with any new home get it inspected, you would be surprise what we find, building materials in crawl space and even the sewer not connected.
Simled; interesting comment about heat and H2O. I kind of like that getting it out of the way and using gravity to help it service the house. Space in garage is valuable and servicing those units once or twice a year is nothing provided there is easy access.
