Who cares about the kids? I don't want to have to change my lifestyle. I've worked very hard to get where I am, and the kids can just figure it out if it's a problem or not.

Roseburg is running about 3/4 of an inch below normal rainfall for both the year and the month of December. Last weekend they predicted 1.5" of rain Saturday and Sunday, and we got none. It was 67 degrees here on Sunday. Last night it rained, then cleared off. This morning my windshield was 1/4" of ice. I had to chisel the wipers to get them loose.

Here in the southwestern mountains of Oregon, it has been in the 60's several recent days, partly sunny, no wind. Some, but not very much rain. Mostly more like a heavy misting.

Now colder air is coming in, not freezing yet though.

Interesting descriptions across the region. It seems like much of the energy is going to the north, which is pretty typical La Nina. I expect that Steven Pickering is getting the southern edges of the endless storms sweeping Washington. We have not had it too bad down here in S. Oregon.

With today being the first exception in several weeks, the south coast has been very rainy and gloomy. The coast can get a level of daytime darkness seldom seen in the valleys...much more than simple overcast can account for. For quite a long time now, exceptionally thick cloud cover has reduced mid-day light levels at the coast to not much more than twilight level -- the kind of conditions in which you need to drive with your headlights on even at 1:00 p.m., even though there is no ground fog or low marine layer.

As was astutely pointed out elsewhere, the Coast Range and Siskiyou Mts. can be a barrier either way, sometimes keeping clouds out of the valleys and sometimes socking them in when there is blue sky on the coast. It seems most of the rain and clouds these past few weeks were confined to the windward slopes. Suddenly, today we have blue sky and sunshine with very low dew points and cold temperatures. I don't care for the cold, but it's nice to have a change from the DARK DARK skies we've been having so far this month.
