We got the Jan 2011 National Geographic Magazine recently in the mail. It's about population growth. On page 4, Chris Johns, the editor writes about the growth of Jackson County... "When I return to Jackson County, Oregon, where I was born, the green fields where I used to cut hay, dig onions, and harvest pears are gone. They have been replaced by subdivisions and big-box stores. This is hardly a surprise given that the population off Jackson County has more than tripled in mt life time. When I see the rapid development going on in my hometown, I can't help but wonder what the future holds for the rest of the world."

A bit of a dreary commentary, but also pretty neat that he's from Oregon. Didn't know that...

Lots of well known people from Oregon. Today Show host Ann Curry is from Ashland, Alice Cooper graduated from South Salem High, Nicholas Kristoff, NYT columnist, grew up in Yamhill, Lindsay Wagner graduated from Jefferson High, etc.
