Lots of coastal towns on the Gulf of Mexico will fit your needs just fine. Have a good life there.

That sounds very good to me, and would be a plus .

Or perhaps it's your view of the Bible that is "badly misinterpreted", and not the other way around .

I, for one, am one of them who are annoyed by these people. You just say no thank you , close the door, end of story. They don't burn a cross on your lawn the next day.. FYI, when I lived in the liberal Hawthorne area I had these same people knocking on my door. So you are not safe even in liberal SE Portland! PLEASE, this whole thread is absurd.

As much as I hate to say it, if you need a helping hand, it is probably the church-going conservative neighbor who will be there to give you aid than the stuck-up hip and cool liberal neighbor who is conceited and too busy with his/her own life to worry about you and your problems. That has certainly been my experience and I am not saying this because of my own religious or political allegiances.
^^^^^^ Exactly this, thank you.

I feel that maybe I should point out that a few people, even several dozen people, who write letters to the editor of a local paper are not really proof positive of the feelings of an entire town or an entire region. All it means is that there might be a small group of people with extreme views.

The whole point of letters to the editor is to print all points of view. I suspect that ocassionally other points of view appear in letters to the editor that are not mainstream ideas and might appear to be a little odd.

Plus a lot of people posting in this thread are either not on CD anymore or have moved on to other areas.
Well, it's fairly obvious that you posted because you disagree with DebSta. Sorry, but I completely agree with her/him, and am glad they posted. Their post was very relevant. Why don't you want them to post their opinion, but you go ahead, and post yours??? As disagreeable as it is . Older threads can still be timely, and informative.

Thanks, but no thanks! Because the weather is unbearable on the Gulf of Mexico. You can't compare Oregon with that. It's for hot weather lovers.

Missionaries are entertaining if I have the time. I like to spend half an hour pointing out all the ways Christianity is a false religion. My wife says I'm just being mean, but I figure if they knock on my door they are fair game. I haven't seen one in 15 years, so maybe I have been blacklisted.
I'm a little envious Larry. I would love to be blacklisted.

There are as many views of the truth as there are eyes.
Why be bugged because someone's view differs from yours? So what?

Defensive much?

Did you even read what I wrote? Nothing about agreeing or disagreeing, but threads that start off by someone complaining about what they DON'T like or don't want never go well. That is why starting a new thread, specific to what the poster is looking for, is always a good idea, rather than tagging on to an older contentious thread.

Because, as is happening in this thread, some agenda-driven poster comes in and takes over the thread - case in point.
