You would be much happier in North Texas.

Generalize much?

You complain that liberals don't know or want to know anything about your life and attack you for your choices, but with this statement it's obvious you know nothing about most liberals (or all liberals, according to you). I'm a liberal, but I don't want to live next to a strip bar (and I choose not to). I want to live in a neighborhood with friendly and respectful neighbors, and I don't care if they're Christian, atheist, Baha'i, Rastafarian, Scientologist, or even Muslim.

Let's not go through the exercise where I claim that you are intolerant, then you claim I'm intolerant because I don't like your opinions. You know that's just a childish game. Let's agree to not characterize all "liberals" as believing one thing or another, and I won't characterize all "conservatives" with a broad brush.

You must live in an interesting neighborhood. Porn shops aren't doing well where I live. Too much competition from MTV.

That's a myth, promoted by sloppy reporting.

Hey, I didn't vote for him. I referred to his entire term as governor as the Goldbrick Administration. At this point it's ancient history. His sex life is about as relevant as his political achievements, essentially meaningless. I find it entertaining that the girl gets younger every time the tale is passed on.

I had to google this one. It's real. I'm astonished. I'm sure your children will be scarred for life.

When you adopt a political stance, you have to expect that some people will disagree with you. Your own stance is pretty intolerant too. Luckily, the freedom of speech that you despise protects your right to express yourself no matter how obscene others may find your ideas.

I know, the liberals will say don't let the door hit us in the arse. However, you eventually will miss our outrageously high personal and business taxes.

More 'contributors' will eventually move from Oregon, leaving the 'entitlement' class to cannibalize itself once the sex shows are over.
I think your real problem is too many people. If you live in a city, you have to live with them.

You make some valid points when it comes to Portland but I really wouldn't categorize Oregon as the least moral state. (Portland and the rest or Oregon are almost like two different areas with distinctly different demographics.)

Political corruption does tend to be high though.

Let's remember that Jesus was a liberal too, and many of today's Christians are as well.

Protestant fundamentalism includes certain features of Christianity, but it isn't pure Christianity. Much of it is just conservative sociopolitical culture in the guise of religion: 30% GOD, 70% GOP.

.
I'm a registered Democrat and probably qualify as a liberal in your small world, but this is entirely untrue of myself or anyone I know.

You interpret him as being a pot smoking hippy liberal who married Mary Magdalene and had 100s of kids. However, that is not the Jesus in the bible, that is the Jesus that deluded people contrive in their morally-inept and convoluted minds.

If anything Jesus is very ultra-conservative and old school. Like one of the verses, "if a woman remarries after divorce she is an adulteress." The people at the time where getting divorces going from husband to husband, wife to wife. Wow, sounds like how things are today. Jesus said, no way! I am sure that would fly really well with the liberals today. Try reading the bible through the eyes of The Holy Spirit, rather than that of a corrupt society. Wolves, in sheep's clothing would be a good analogy to use here. Now, if we get into the teachings of his apostles, we are talking real hard core conservatism. Like Paul, saying women should pray with head coverings. Of course, many these new age liberal types, only read the parts of the bible that appease them.

Hey, I don't want to get into a religious debate and go off topic, but I have to rebuke such erroneous comments like these.

To jjpop, I am sorry. I apologize. Perhaps, I should rephrase, not politically liberal, as much as socially or morally liberal. E.g., many Hispanic and African American Christians vote liberal in politics, yet live very conservative and religious lifestyles. If you oppose things like strip bars and don't mind having Christian neighbors, I would say you are very open minded person, in a way most "Portland Liberals" are not.

Ironically, those live sex shows, the strip clubs and the Naked Bike rides all directly contribute to Portland's taxable income, something we really need more of.

How many Churches in Portland pay taxes?

BTW - Naked Bike Ride was closer over 10k people last year, AND smaller ones happen all through the year with no problems.

Actually the Naked Bike Ride is usually a fun event. The routes are published ahead of time so anyone who doesn't want to look doesn't have to be there. I don't go to ogle but I wouldn't deny anyone else the right.

You have the adjective "liberal" confused with "libertine." While liberals are more open-minded than conservatives, nothing about liberalism connotes or in any way endorses sexual licentiousness or substance abuse. That's a myth spread by modern-day Pharisees of the Far Right. Liberalism is a political philosophy committed to liberty for all, rule of law and equal rights. In particular, liberals are deeply devoted to social justice (gee, do you think Jesus would ever approve of that?). Liberalism believes one of the primary functions of democracy is to promote the common good. Contrast this with conservativism, which believes that democratic governments should primarily defend individual liberties and promote capitalism...not exactly Jesus' agenda.

Rubbish. Even in Pilate's Judaea, they didn't go around crucifying people for being "ultra-conservative and old school." He was an executed on a charge of sedition against the Roman Empire. He angered the wealthy and the powerful and upset the established order with theological blasphemy and socialistic teachings about redistribution of wealth ("If you want to be complete, sell all your possessions to the poor and then you will have treasure in heaven.")
He was crucified by the ultra-conservative and old school. He, himself, was a radical. His teachings were based on a new future vision, not the old traditions..he was a true progressive.

And as for strip bars, heavy drinking and all the rest of the libertine stuff. There's not a lot of that in liberal Oregon. Go to the heart of the so-called "Bible Belt" -- East Texas, Louisiana, Georgia, Florida -- and there you'll find the Pentecostals enthusiastically revving up for some Saturday-night indulgence so they'll have some Sunday morning atonement that will "multiply their grace." There's a lot of appetite for that kind of thing down there.
