I am thinking about moving my family to Roseburg and opening a small preschool/childcare center! Anyone out there see a need for GOOD/QUALITY childcare? I have some family there already...but am wondering if I will make it financially? I already know there aren't many restaurants (except they opened a red robin up there) and you have to go to Eugene to go to Costco...anything else you can share about the city would be greatly appreciated! I found a cool house in the Melrose area? Anyone from this area?

The first thing you need to do is get licensed as a child care facility:

Oregon Employment Department - Child Care Division For Providers (http://www.oregon.gov/EMPLOY/CCD/forProviders.shtml - broken link)

Then you need to find a suitable location, on commercially zoned property. The Chamber of Commerce might help you with this. Roseburg Area Chamber of Commerce

Your house in Melrose is probably not suitable, because everybody is driving the other direction in the morning. They won't want to drive out into the country to drop off their kids.

You will also be competing with some churches that run very good day care and preschool programs, with pretty well funded facilities. Maybe you should scope out the competition.
