McKenzie Pass will open this Friday. This is apparently the latest date it has ever opened. It was closed last October and really got hit by snow this past winter. Enjoy the drive while you can!

One of the great scenic highways of the state! I wonder if they will have the observatory dug out?

I agree that McKenzie is one of the more awesome drives. Absolutely gorgeous. This might be just my first month (well, technically second, now) of living here, but that is already one of the things on my to-do list before the season is over.

When I was in college I knew a girl from McKenzie Bridge. It's the end of the road in the winter, the gateway to heaven in summer.

Geez, it's opened just in time to be closed again. I love the drive over the pass on my motorcycle, but it doesn't matter what you drive it's always a great drive.

Amen! Even with heavy snow flurries coming down, and the fear that if you stop to put on tire chains, you may not get started back up the hill again.

Crater Lake Rim Drive is still closed, along with almost all the hiking trails, all of one campground and most of the other. The North Entrance is open (the South Entrance stays open almost all-year-round), and it will get you to the Overlook. Best guess right now on the whole drive being open is the end of the month or the beginning of August.

Everyone I've talked to who has been up in the Cascades/Blues says this has been the worst mosquito season they've ever seen. I love to camp, but I think I'm holding off until at least mid-Aug through late September this year.

According to my vet, it's also an unusually bad tick season, both for dogs and people.
