I used to work as a child and family therapist. What do you want to know?

Just curious as to the licensure laws and the "feel" of the system in general. For instance, in NC you have to get licensed to work as a therapist and that involves a long supervision process. Also, the mental health system in general is going through a major upheaval and access to services are terrible. Alot of unethical stuff caused a lot of problems for us. A lot of places have closed as a result. Our system is behind a lot of other states. Just curious as to the overall view of the system.

You'd have to check and see if your license would transfer over here. There is a long supervision process and it is different depending upon whether you have a MA/MS or a MSW.

Our social services have taken huge budget cuts. I worked with awesome people in the various places I worked. There was one program that had serious problems and the workers actually went on strike. That program got absorbed by a more stable program and totally revamped.

Our state hospital, in Salem is hiring. Not sure what population you want to work with though. The hospital has had serious issues in the past, but they are bringing in a lot of new staff (as I have worked with some) to try and change the dysfunctional culture that was created there.

There aren't enough services to meet the needs of the community, but that is due to not enough funding not really dysfunction, IMO.

Why are you considering Oregon?

Thanks. Yeah I do know that I won't be able to "take my license" with me but would have to contact the board as to what I would need to do. My husband and I have family out that way and have thought about moving many times, it's just a risk in this economy but we are considering things cautiously. I just know the risk with my field in that I wouldn't be licensed if I move to another state. Thanks for the info. By the way, I have worked with all populations from child to adult, even the seriously mentally ill adult population. Thanks again for the info.
