The time stores closes during the winter, and also being an environmental state they do NOT salt their roads during the winter like many of the north states do, also what surprised me there is ALWAYS something to be doing, you never really get bored, and lots of places to view.

Oh forgot god forbid do NOT throw away a 5 cent bottle or can lol. I notice most people look at you funny when you throw your plastic bottles, glass bottles, and cans in the trash haha.

Surprised by now many smokers I saw in OR, they were everywhere. Someone told me it had something to do with cigarettes being cheap in OR, but I dunno...

According to: U.S. Smoking Rates by State - US News and World Report Oregon is at 17.9% of Adults smoke.

But that's not to far outside any of the other states.

Occasional purchaser - they are not cheap here.
Montana on the other hand is cheap (relatively speaking)

Way more smokers in Portland and especially Eugene, than anywhere in CA or Nevada. I don't go by statistics, I go by what I see on the streets. Eugene is especially horrifying, and it's not even possible for someone who doesn't want to be exposed to walk through the areas like Whittaker. People smoking while riding bikes, smoking while moving their belongings into the house, smoking in front of the house all day, smoking while walking and talking, everyone smoking sitting outside the restaurant, in front of laundromats; it was hard to find a place where you don't get some and don't have to pass through the smoke.

Smoking is a habit of the uneducated and poor, which describes most of Oregon. I have sometimes wondered if nicotine is the drug of choice to treat the Seasonal Affective Disorder that is so common here.

I don't think so. The rates are within a percentage point of the majority of the nation.

The only explanation I have is that it's more visible as people have to smoke outside vs. bars and dining establishments.

This is what I see too. They can't smoke inside so they group around entrances.

Which is illegal. State law says you can't smoke within 10 feet of an entrance. Granted, no one seems to enforce that around here.
