Hello!

I am relocating from Tacoma and I have found a job in Tualatin. I've come to realize that Tualatin is an expensive area to live. I was wondering, are there any cities outside of Tualatin that would be slightly cheaper to rent an apartment? I've read that Wilsonville is just as expensive to live as Tualatin but what about Oregon City or Tigard?

Any information will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

What's your price range? I don't think Tualatin is considered expensive, generally.

First of all, Tualatin isn't that "expensive". However, if it is for you, you'll probably find Tigard about the same. You might try Sherwood, however. It's a fast growing community but there's still some "older" places in town and it's practically right next to Tualatin. Oh yeah, if you think Tualatin is too expensive for you, forget Lake Oswego.

Tualatin is well inside the Portland metro area, so you might try posting in the Portland forum for more suggestions.

Of the ones mentioned so far, Oregon City is the most affordable AFAIK. You might also look at Beaverton; lots of apartments there. A friend of mine works in Tualatin and lives in an unincorporated area in the same zip code as Tigard, near the Washington Square mall. You might look in that area.

Have you asked your new employer or your future co-workers for suggestions?

If you are looking to save money on housing, you might check Canby, Hubbard, Aurora, Donald, or any of the other small communities south of Tualatin.

Saving money on housing may mean spending more money commuting. Look at your entire financial picture.
