ok so after sitting on this fourm for a few hours reading posts and bouncing between oregon and washington it has occured to me that the movie with the vampires and wolves was filmed in portland or canada not washington. sorry brain fart cant remember the name of the movie. im currently a resident of wyoming born and riased in the land of oz.i lived in the pnw for a few months back in 01. i love the mountains and snow, but am missing the rainy grey days of the pnw. since im moving solo this time, i get to choose where i go lol. anywho i want to live in a town like in the movie where it is wet most of the time, still snows a little and where i can raise a family once i meet a nice girl lol. are there any areas like this around portland where the cost of living for someone single is affordable, and there isnt a long commute to a decent job??

Twilight was filmed in Columbia county. Not many jobs out there so you'd be commuting to Portland. You might like Sandy, which is the opposite direction.

Not many jobs in Sandy either. Most people who live there have farms or commute into Gresham/Portland.

Another question, how much snow are you looking for? Portland area generally gets a couple of days of snow every other year, Sandy may have an extra day or two on top of that. If you're looking for huge amounts of snow, you should look in Bend.

If you're just in it for the rain, then the Portland area in general is good for you.

If you want to get your impression of Portland by way of the movies, watch Grimm on the telly.

Anywhere in the Willamette valley, it rains... alot. Higher elevations, Estacada, Eagle Creek, Boring, Sandy,Welches, Corbet, Gresham,Troutdale, you'll have higher likely hood of snow. Job situation is iffy in the whole area depending on your occupation.

Most of our weather systems travel across the Pacific Ocean and travel west to east. As moist air is pushed up against mountain ranges it cools and can hold less moisture. The localities that receive the most rain are located on the west side of the Cascade Range. Obviously the higher up you are the higher the possibility of snow.

The ocean side of the Coast Range is also very wet but it is not as high as the Cascade Range.
