I think environmental opposition is a big deal in S. Oregon. I think that environmental groups are a growth industry. They provide jobs for college kids from large urban areas of the E. Coast and oppose almost any new development. I think they have done some very good things over the years, but there seems to be a reflexive opposition to any tourist development that sometimes becomes overreach by a vocal minority. The Ashland expansion was approved by the courts and most valley residenst, but activists are launching a boycott effort. I don't think it is a great idea, but I don't lose any sleep over it. Kinds of a shame that Klamath Falls does not have a resort. I am not sure if the economics would support it, but it would be nice for the folks there to be able to downhill ski without driving all the way up to Bachelor. They have long winters, and that would make them funner for the residents.

Agreed. Bachelor, Ashland, and Timberline ... that's enough right?
