Hi all:

Saturday night a young man was killed walking home from work at 4:30-5:00 pm in the afternoon on a popular bike path in central Ashland, Oregon. Salt of the earth guy with no known criminal connections. Hacked to death with a sword or machete. I usually go jogging by that precise spot with my dogs on Saturday afternoons at that time. By chance, I was in Monterey, CA on vacation this weekend. Creepy.

Authorities urge caution as details emerge in Ashland murder | MailTribune.com

Anyhow, the person is still at large, and I want to warn all my fellow Oregonians to keep an eye out and be careful out there. Since we are on I-5, and the murder was right next to a pathside parking lot, the murderer could be anywhere, and it was such a savage, unprovoked, motiveless crime, I have to assume madness is involved. Yes, you heard right, a homicidal madman is afoot, so please, please be careful when going out alone in secluded areas or bike paths. And if you know anyone who might have information about this please call the Ashland Police Department.

Blessings to all,

Fiddlehead

I wouldn't be too quick to assign this one to a nut case. There may have been a motive. As for the weapon, there are a lot of swords in Ashland. Having one would not be particularly suspicious.

Maybe you're right. I don't know to much about the kid who was killed, nor about murder motives and investigations.

On the local news this evening, the officer said that they have contacted other law enforcement agencies, including the FBI, looking for similar MO. They don't seem to have any motives or suspects, yet. Sad and scary.

I just saw this on the news, and it breaks my heart. Poor kid- my heart hurts for his family. I hope they find whoever did it soon- and that everyone will be careful out there.
