I'm devastated.
Just crushed.
You just can't trust anybody anymore.

I think they should rename the store "Someone in Oregon touched this."

HAHAHA! I found that very funny for some reason.

I do dislike duplicity however. Pretty much tugging at your heartstrings to get you to make a purchase because it was "made in Oregon". Living in Texas I can tell you the state "brand" is strong. We eat that stuff up here.

Well just to be fair, in the Made in China store in the Shanghai airport half the items are made in Vietnam.

The General Manager, Candance Vincent, of Made in Oregon, seems to have (at least to me) a pretty cavalier attitude about it.

Almost like "Oh Yeah, HAHA, I never really thought about it, I guess your right, I guess that might be a little bit of a problem, but hey, we're making money for people but under totally false pretenses, but you know it says "Oregon" on it, so I guess that means we're local and everybody's cool with it , right?"

If they have OREGON in their name, they indirectly represent our state.
Have some honor, morals and integrity.

Thanks "Made in Oregon".

That's what Tillamook cheeses (http://www.tillamook.com/) me off the most about this.

I was disappointed too when I read that article a bit ago. I buy things from there all the time to support Oregon. I can go to Fred Meyers or someplace else for Made in China.

I don't have a problem with it. The companies are in Oregon. And I think it's pretty naive to think that (especially) companies like Pendleton, Columbia Sportswear, Nike, etc. don't have products made elsewhere. I'd still support them as local companies, over their competitors.

Problem:

1)--A lot of the best selling types of goods, are cannot even possibly be obtained in Oregon as no one makes them in Oregon. There are few products made in Oregon, that can be used in a store like that. In fact, a lot of them are no longer made in the entire U.S.

2)--As the manager pointed out, if they were made in Oregon, the customers could not or would not pay the price that was required. When stores like Macy's have to buy a lot of their goods especially clothing and electronics from overseas, what chance can a store selling wool shirts made in Oregon compete with Macy's selling almost if not completely identical items made overseas. One selling for $39, and another selling for $239. Remember, that the iPhone selling for about $200 only costs Apple less than $30 at the factory when it rolls out. Made in the Oregon it would cost up to a couple thousand dollars.

If you look at the top 150 businesses in Oregon, only 2 at seventy sixth and ninety second place which make some apparel, are the only ones that make things that would be sold in a Made in Oregon Shop. And their goods are too high price to sell much. There are a lot of lumber manufacturing companies, law firms, restaurants, car dealers, Microbreweries, contractors, etc., but no one making things that could be sold in an made in Oregon shop.
