I will be relocating to The Brookings Harbor area from northern Nevada, and was wondering about the outdoor sports. How is the bird, deer, bear, coyote hunting in the area ? What is the fishing like, salt water and fresh, does anyone surf fish? I have heard that you can by deer a tag over the counter.

There is a ranger station in Brookings. Why not call them and start closer to the source?

There seem to be some big fishing events there too. I just noticed a lot of vehicles this past weekend, and apparently it was for Salmon fishing. Last time I was there during an event, it seemed that many of the fishermen were on the Smith River about 1/2 hour away.

The recreation there may overlap northern California a bit; likely excluding the national and state redwood forests.

Default Brookings hunting

Calling the ranger station is a good idea! I was really hoping to get some feed back from local hunters, that to me is the best source of information.

Thanks

Fishing and hunting is great in brookings. They have a couple of derbys each year. The ocean fishing and rivers have salmon. The ocean you can fish for tuna, lingcod, perch, crab, whatever. Yes you can buy a hunting tag over the counter. There are several rivers in the area.
