My family will be in Portland around July 4th, and I was wondering if it is worth the trip out to Seaside to see their fireworks display. Thanks.

Yes, although I've been told multiple times that the one in Longbeach Washington is better.

Although if you're in Portland already, they do one on the Willamette River in downtown. The barge that launches them is normally sitting between the Burnside and Morrison bridges. If you can swing it, a boat during that time is awesome.

The coast is fun on the fourth but be careful driving. When we first moved to Oregon we were really surprised the number of people who do their fireworks right in the middle of the road! I'm from a dryer state where stuff like that is simply not allowed. It was actually really shocking to see. The worst we saw was hwy126 leaving Florence to go back towards Eugene. We had never seen anything like it! So dangerous.

So just be very careful if you have to drive. Prolly the best thing is to hunker down at a hotel or vacation rental so that you can walk to see the fireworks, then walk back to your hotel, and not have to drive anywhere that night.

It's technically not allowed, but stopping it is pretty near impossible. So is launching fireworks in to the air. Yet it seems like every other house is doing so.
