They have pretty decent meat.

They would sell as well as their Cinnamon rolls of the 1990's GONE! (if you are not FAST)
I only started to get Costco's hand-dipped ice cream bars rolled in chopped almonds, then all of a sudden *poof* They were gone.

But I think Costco does have a pulled pork (or some kind of BBQ) sandwich. My wife got it once, but thought it was just OK (a little too sweet).

This morning on KOBI 5 News I saw that In N' Out Burger has applied for pre qualification to open in Medford. The location is a closed Shell Oil station on hwy 62......This is not set in stone yet.

Huh. If so, that is a terrible location, in a part of Medford I stay out of (due to traffic woes) except for the occasional Trader Joe's trip.

Also, that Shell station is NOT closed - or at least it wasn't about 2 weeks ago when I drove by last. It is right on the mall property. I suppose the planners might like it because it would keep the traffic off of Crater Lake Hwy and off of Hwy 99 - and I suppose the (dying) mall would be happy to get the traffic, thinking that maybe someone would actually go in to the mall.

That location is too far for me to drive from my home, to get a burger. They should put one in Grants Pass.....

In-N-Out requires a nearby distribution center. They must be planning to build one relatively near - the closest one now is in Redding and that is too far. So maybe the next one will be in Grant's Pass..... assuming there is ever one in Medford.

In-N-Out got their approval from the planning commission (parking for 50 cars and it looks like the drive-through line will back up into the mall area - not sure the mall is going to be pleased about that). The gas station on site has been demolished and they expect to start construction in about a month, finished by the end of this year (2015) or the beginning of next year.

They just finished building a distribution center in Redding (previously the closest one had been Sacramento). Not sure what that means about further stores up I5, as Redding is probably 5-6 hours from Eugene, which is pushing the supply chain.

Now that In-N-Out is coming, 5 Guys is looking for a site nearby as well.

I'm not thrilled about the site planning, it is probably one of the worst intersections in Medford, in an area of town I specifically avoid due to bad traffic. Local traffic planners call the intersection "The Big X" for the notorious slow-downs there. The long signal delays mean that a ton of people get impatient and run lights, too, even with the extended built-in light delays and traffic cameras that are supposed to time the signals to the traffic.

The new Crater Lake bypass (to get through traffic off of Crater Lake Highway between I5 and just past Costco) starts construction this year and that won't help in the short run, either.

Best as I can tell there is only one In-N-Out burger in Redding. I believe the distribution center is near Stockton. Medford could easily be served from there, until a distribution center is opened in Oregon. It would be a good location for them to test the market.

That said, In-N-Out is incredibly mediocre food. I don't think Oregon is missing any thing without it, but I suppose it would be very popular with California transplants.

In and Out is pretty good for a chain burger joint, it is way better than most fast food chains like Subway, Jimmy John's and Chick Fil A

It's a typical greasy fried burger, simular to Mcd's. I would put it below Subway. I will eat Subway, even though it's not very good, but I avoid In-n-Out at all cost.

If you want a good burger I'd probably check out Five Guys. It's a 100 x better.

Argue with the paper and the In-N-Out PR person, not me.

The article in the paper said they built a distribution center in Redding, which is what allowed them to expand into Oregon, because the previous distribution center is in Sacramento (although that could mean "Sacramento area" which Stockton is almost a part of). I suspect part of the new distribution center is increasing the number of stores in far Northern California as well.

I am not a big fast food fan, I probably eat a fast food hamburger maybe once or twice a year, usually while traveling and in a hurry. In-N-Out is better than most fast food places and is at least fresh. The 5 Guys near Eugene is just too salty for me.

ETA: and I hate Subway. The absolute cheapest deli meats and cheese and some horrible preservative on their lettuce with a nasty aftertaste. Fortunately there are the Yelp and Urbanspoon apps, so when I am traveling I can find a reasonable quality deli.
