We just planted lots and lots of rosemary. I love rosemary and also heard that the deer won't eat it. I hope.
You should see my chickens taking dirt baths!! So cute!

Bucks don't have antlers year round. They grow them in the summer, use them during rut and shed them in early winter. This time of year the antlers are just little velvety nubbins next to the ears, and are easy to miss. Your deer was probably a doe, though.

That's the nature report from the front lines for today :-)
The bird flying to the window may be trying to let you know they are wondering what time dinner is and where is the feeder? If the person before you fed them they are used to stopping by for a snack. When I had feeders the Red Breasted Nuthatches were usually theo ones to let me know the food selection was lacking, and they would sit and supervise as I replenished the feeders.

I love all the Hummingbirds that come up to their feeders here...

I do wish some weren't so possessive though, always trying to run the other Hummers off.

We had a big snow storm here a few years abck and I watched a female Anna's Hummingbird and a Bushtit have it out, falling to the ground fighting all because the bushtit had the audacity to try to get food from a feeder that was next to the hummingbird feeder! Neither was hurt and I moved the bushtit feeder a few feet away nd all were happy then. The hummingbird feeder was under the roof of the front porch and the anna's would sit there and not let anything past - I got quite a talking to when I went out to swap her frozen food for thawed.

These are at least two different Hummingbirds that are fighting each year. At first i had 1 feeder, they fought. Then i put up another feeder 3 feet away under my porch roof, they fight. I like to be able to see both feeders thru the window when i'm sitting in my chair.

My crowded, busy Portland neighborhood has many hummingbirds. I guess they are more the urban types.

I had a hummingbird feeder up back at my old place, and had many a conversation with my visitors. Got to where they'd get right up next to my face and hover, chattering away.

I've only seen one hummingbird here though...

I've thought about feeding the birds, but wasn't sure I should. I didn't know if putting out food would invite a host of critters that I might not want around ;-)
