Hello,

My wife and I are contemplating a move to Oregon in the very near future and could use advice on prospective employers. She's got a great marketing background in consumer packaged goods - specifically ice cream, chocolate, and wine - and wants to find work in a field like that. We're aware of the wine-region, but we can't seem to find much on food-oriented companies. We're not city people, so living smack in the middle of Portland isn't appealing, but a commute wouldn't be a new thing for either of us.

Any advice? Thanks!!

Umpqua Dairy in Roseburg.
Tillamook Creamery in Tillamook, I think. They may have moved their head office. Check the web.
Blue Heron Cheese is also in Tillamook.
Bandon Cheese is starting back up.
Willamette Vineyards outside Salem is the biggest winery in the state.
Honeywood Winery in Salem is an old established winery that sells varietals and fruit wines. Their currant wine is the gourmet cook's delight.
Norpac processes Santiam and Flav-r-pack vegetables in the mid-valley. I think they are headquartered in Stayton.

I don't know of any food processing in Portland, so if you were after the bright lights you may be out of luck.

i've heard some bad things about umpqua dairy, but wine seems to be booming here!

Beaver Foods, Ocean Spray, Pacific Seafoods, Alphenrose Dairy. She might be able to leverage that experience into a job at New Seasons too.

Be careful what you believe. Umpqua Ice Cream has won national awards for excellence, and their other dairy products are top notch. The wineries are generally small, though they have produced some fabulous vintages. Pyrenees, near my house, produced a 2008 Syrah that was excellent.

There's a freeze dry outfit in Albany that contracts MREs, and also backpacker freeze dried food. I forget the name. Khalsa Kettle Chips started in Salem, but I don't know if they are still there.

i'm talking about them being scrooges and firing people for dubious reasons.
