Try one of the many Churches in town. A see that several are running Thanksgiving Dinners, perhaps attending one and talking with people might get you some company?

If you're at all inclined toward drumming and music, seek out the Newport Drum Circle and its leader, Chandler Davis.

Mark there are support groups in Newport. I think you need to connect with one of them.

As to your book, I would guess your disability will keep the publishers from showing any interest. You will need to find an advocate to run interference for you.

I do not know anything about them but a guy I used to work with had some success using online publishing. Maybe you could look into that. Best of luck to you. I second the idea of checking out churches to meet people. Especially with the Thanksgiving holidays coming up, I know those in Portland are serving Thanksgiving dinner to people who do not have a place to go. Maybe you could meet other people there.

Good luck to you. Newport is a nice place.

For people around the holidays, get involved with a charity that does a Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner for the poor. Lots of nice people work those things.

For longer term, sign up for a foreign language class or an art class or a writers group.

I'm not saying this to be mean, but if you want to publish, you are going to have to learn grammar and sentence structure. Do not use your disability as an excuse. People with disabilities can learn how to write. It might take more effort and you might need to get together with a reading specialist (masters degree as a reading specialist) who knows the tricks of teaching reading and writing to persons with disabilities. It can be done, and you will have to make yourself do it if you wish to be published.

I have owned a small publishing company and I wouldn't have cared much about how good your story is. All I would see from your note was how much extra work and extra expense it would be for me to get it into publishable form.

Again, I very rarely say anything about a person's grammar or writing on-line because I dislike the self-righteous grammar police. But you want to be published, so I am offering you genuine advice that will help you.
