I've always thought of it as being the southernmost part of Northwestern Oregon, rather than the northernmost part of Southern Oregon.

Lane County is not southern Oregon either geographically or culturally.

It's the Douglas Co. boundary that separates Oregon from the State of Jefferson.

Of course, depending on who you talk to, "Southern Oregon" can be mainly the I-5 corridor between the Coast Range and the Cascades, from Roseburg to the California border, or it can expand to include the south coast all the way east over to Lakeview.

The Southern Oregon Visitor's Association uses the larger definition and calls the regions: The Coast, The Valley, The High Country. Of course, they include "The High Country" so they can include Crater Lake National Park.

It is called the Mid-Willamette Valley, although it sits at the southern end of the Valley. Salem is Mid Valley. Lane County is the entire southern end of the Willamette drainage.
