It looks like the boys and I will be heading to Grants Pass, arriving June 10, to look for a home to rent. I figure we will pitch a tent and camp while house-hunting. Your recommendations on a good, safe camping spot in the area would be much appreciated. The boys are 8 and 12.

Indian Mary is a bit out of town, right on the river, but it's a lovely campground.

Schroeder Park is actually right at town. Also on the river. Never camped there, tho.

Thank you, KadyLady. Looking at the map, would you say the additional drive is well worth it, compared to Schroeder Park near town?

Well, Schroeder is really right in town on the river. It might be way more convenient.
It looks like it got some good reviews. I think the area is pretty safe, too. Just depends on what you're looking for.
We actually live out in the Merlin area. We've camped at Indian Mary, just for the heck of it! LOL 10 minute drive....saves on gas.
There's also Griffen Park, which is a little closer than Indian Mary. It looks nice.

There are many folks who live along the Applegate River. You can turn off & drive along parts of the Applegate, between Lake Selmac & Grants Pass, off hwy 199. You can end up over by Merlin area. Another road goes along the Rogue River, into Grants Pass. Might be a home to rent along these roads. Some folks put up a sign by the road.
