Hi all,

I have a potential opportunity to work in the Malheur National Forest. While I am excited, I have attempted researching potential nearby rentals to no avail. Is anyone familiar with towns with available homes/apartments for rent within a reasonable driving distance of the park? I'd be willing to drive as far as 45 minutes to an hour each way. Thank you all for your very appreciated advice!

Will you be working out of a particular ranger station? Where would you be reporting to work?

The Malheur National Forest isn't a "park" per se, it's a huge tract of hundreds of square miles of mixed-use public forest and range land and has three Ranger District offices: Blue Mountain RD in John Day, Emigrant Creek RD in Hines, and Prairie City RD in Prairie City. You need to know where you are going to report to work as it wouldn't help you to find a rental in John Day if you'll be reporting to work in Hines.

Contact the station you're going to work at. Frequently the locals there will know of the rentals available. It's also possible that the station itself has something available.
