Hi everyone,

I know this may sound a bit crazy to a lot of people, but my husband and I are planing on moving to Oregon in the year 2015. We were both born and raised in Hawaii, our families are all from Hawaii, but to get ahead in life, we need to relocate. Economy in Hawaii is a drag and there is no way we can build a good life with what we have now. We have four children and our oldest daughter will be in high school by the time we move. I am looking towards the northwest portion of Oregon (Hillsboro, Beaverton, etc.) We will be heading to Oregon to check out the area soon and it would be great if you all could help me and point me into the right direction to raise our family.
Below are a few key items we are looking for:

Good Schools, hopefully there are some near each other (High school, Middle and Elementary)
Near Grocery Stores
Moderate Housing Costs
Low Crime

Also, does anyone know how jobs are? I have no degree, but I have been working in the Administration field for 12 years and my husband has been in Construction for 8 years, he is currently working for the City and County of Honolulu in the Road Maintenance division.

There's a substantial Hawaiian community in Oregon. I live near Beaverton and my Hawaiian neighbors have some sort of traditional music group that meets at their house most weekends. A quick Google found these organizations:

Ke Kukui Foundation :: Home
Portland, Oregon

The Beaverton/Washington County area would be a good place to start. The schools are good, plenty of stores, safe, etc. The job situation is better than it was a few years ago. The Portland area is a tough rental market, though - the vacancy rate is so low that landlords can charge a lot and be very picky about who they rent to.

PS. there is an unincorporated area called "Aloha" near Beaverton, but the name doesn't seem to be related to the Hawaiian word, and is usually pronounced with the 'h' silent.

Good luck!
