Must be flying (or rounding down the time) - that's a full 70 miles including the non-highway stretch and the limit is 55 even for chunks of the interstate stretch. I see enough state police just between Wilsonville and Woodburn that I'd hesitate to open it up quite that much. 1:20 I'd buy.

But I agree 2 hours is an over-estimate unless you're going at rush. Roseburg is a very real 3h even with no traffic.

If Pickering is getting to the Hawthorne Street Costco in 23 minutes from Dallas, I'm glad I don't live in Salem anymore.

Anyway, OP, McMinnville is a nice town. It's not far from the Coast Range and optimally located in Yamhill County wine country. You can meander on country roads, stop at boutique winery tasting rooms, buy seasonal produce from all manner of little farm stands. Gardening would be better there than in Astoria. As others have mentioned, it's a college town, but Linfield is smaller, private school that doesn't have the presence that, say, U of O has in Eugene.

I don't fly anymore (Medical) and my brother sold his two planes so I have to drive these days.
