What are you trying to get at? What do you consider under rated and over rated to mean? Why did you pick those cities?

Underrated
Grants Pass - I feel it is great weather, growing area and tons of activity but it seems overlooked by Medford
Philometh - I feel it is cheaper version of Corvallis
Salem - Portland puts a shadow on it plus Salem gets a ehh rep.

Medford - Crime and Grants pass is better IMO
Corvallis - Overpriced area for no major stores. (again still love it)

All of the coast is great, just overrated by many "I want to live there someday" Dreamers.

besides Astoria the coast is not for jobs. I think Waldport is the best kept secret in the country for Crab Fishing but moving there is not realistic

Astoria has no more and no less jobs than most coastal cities. Coos Bay with all it's issues has a call center or two, and lots of work for many residents. All the coast is that way. There are just not many high tech jobs available and the unskilled jobs just take care of about two thirds of the locals, with no room for newcomers. You must keep in mind the coast from Astoria to Brookings has an actual unemploment rate close to 25%, not the reported 12% to 15%.

Underrated: Sisters, Sandy, Wilsonville

Middling: Portland (love visiting, but would hate to live there)

Overrated: Salem, Lincoln City*, Newport*, Lake Oswego

Ridiculously Overrated: Seaside (been there once, absolutely did not see the appeal of it, whatsoever)

*I actually like these two, but they still seem overrated.

PS: I would concur with the earlier post about Sherwood & McMinnville being underrated, too. I really like those two towns.

Portland has something for everyone (except the unemployed) so I would say it fulfills whatever someone may expect of it. I would never call it underrated
