Hope everyone is doing as well as can be due to the storms you people have just been subjected to. Loved the beauty of your coast when I visited in October 07'. Experienced some high winds at Cannon Beach and area's but nothing like you have just had to deal with....HANG IN THERE, hope lights at the end of the tunnel...Someone who cares,...Topher. God Bless everybody!!

What a lovely post...thank you Topher!!

Here in Coos Bay, we got hit probably among the lightest along the Oregon Coast. Typically happens that way....

I really feel for those poor folks in Tillamook. They always get so slammed w/the flooding. sigh

we just got word my bil and sil got totally flooded out of their home. Might be at a total loss. They are right on the river in Vernonia (which got hit about the hardest in Oregon when it came to flooding) Theyre living w/some friends out of town, should hear before too long if home insurance will cover anything....They have a teenage daughter and a little girl that just turned a year. We're sure hoping things turn out for them!
might make for some hard Christmas's this year for a lotta folks.

Default Lincoln City Survived ... Mostly

Well, after 36+hours with power, we're up and running in Lincoln City again ... for the most part.
Had winds clocked at 125+mph. Tore the whole south-side off of the casino (Chinook Winds) - the stucco exterior wall and the insulation, anyway.
We had land-line phones most of yesterday (Mon) but not today. Cell phones were all out .. first and some have come back. Verizon has not ... and we're verizon. None of our phones are working yet(we have Embarq).
The casino has utility backup and so, never close. That and a restaurant called "Lil Sambos" were the only places in town to get a meal although I've heard a couple of smaller places served by candle-light. Gas stations are re-opening. Several traffic lights are working as well.
Hgwy 18 heading to Portland and Salem was scheduled to re-open early this evening after being closed for two days. 101 opened up today as well.
We've heard that Tillamook got hit worse that we did - and our best wishes naturally go that direction.
Personally, we've got a couple trees down on one of our buildings but it did no real harm. A few of our parking-lot light-globes disappeared but we found both withing walking distance.
It's a light idea of what happened with Katrina - except our water and sewers were still operational. It was a night for folks to gather 'round the radio and the candles/lanterns/ whatever. One double-wide out by Devil's Lake apparently burned to the ground - folks were using a kerosene heater - don't know what happened.
Fortunately, it wasn't all that cold out so, folks came thru reasonably well.
Will be waiting for word from Tillamook county and farther up, in Washington where I hear they had mud on the move.

I noticed that the wind stayed strong on Monday much later than the forecasters had predicted. They were predicting the wind to die down around 5pm Monday night, but it was still gusting as late as midnight, and the power actually went down around 9pm until this morning.

Default Winter Storm(Oregon, and Washington too).

Just my two cents worth,... Thought it was interesting that save for the select few (5) who responded to this thread,no one even cared to reply to "tiffela74" who has taken the time to answer multiple questions on this "Oregon" forum, about her relatives....just to ask how she was coping! Maybe it's time that the rest of us, looking in the mirror, shaving or fixing our hair, do some serious soul searching. Look inwards and not just at at those darn...... "Californians" as the root of some problems! ( I am not a Californian, by the way). A little show of support would have gone a long way! Shame on Us......... Topher

thanks for the thought Topher. They are all alive, they lost the house on their property that my SIL mom/dad lived in and due to all the stress/fright, her mom had a massive stroke and they're not sure she will survive.
But they did end up salvaging most of the main house. Have to rebuild everything from floor to 4ft up the walls, but at least they didnt lose everything.....
I do appriciate your thoughts.....maybe nobody else responded because they all dislike me? they dont care? they are all quite busy w/drama of their own.... I dunno.....the internet forums can be an interesting deal.
Tiffany

Hi Tiff;
As always, somebody forgets that until power and comm-lines get back on in certain areas then, there will be no news out of there - like how all the cell phones were out here during the power outage.
So, we wait for news from someone who is waiting for news from someone else and don't press the issues.
That - and the fact that once a thread starts getting buried, it's not up in everybody's head.
Glad your family story worked out .... better than it could have.
Peace.

Sorry to hear of your SIL's mother. That's shame. Sounds like there was quite a bit of damage. The kind of thing people console themselves with by saying it could have been worse or at least we are alive. It still is very disruptive and expensive to recover from.

And don't take it personally. The last we heard, there wasn't really any news - you were waiting to hear, and people do get tied up in their own dramas.
