I will be moving to Portland area soon as I will be working by the Airport - so was thinking of living in the Camas area because of the school districts and commute times. What are the caveats with this plan and does it makes sense to live in Beaverton / Lake Oswego area? I'm worried about having too long of a commute time but don't want to make any tax mistakes either.

The upsides are that Camas is nice and your commute doesn't go thru downtown Portland.

The downsides:

- You get to pay Oregon income tax (Washington doesn't have one) and Washington sales tax (Oregon doesn't have one).
- Your commute depends entirely on the I-205 bridge, which is getting more congested for longer periods of time every day.

Lake O and Beaverton are on the other side of the Willamette River, which would be a much worse commute.

The best advice is usually to live somewhere that doesn't require crossing either river to get to work.

OP you should consider the neighborhood called Happy Valley, I know nothing of their schools. West Linn would be a better choice than Lake Oswego as it is the shorter commute of the two.

The commute from Beaverton (or any area west of the Tualatin Hills) would be horrific. That said, if you can use the MAX line that goes to the airport it would be do-able.

I live on the west side near the city core. My favorite route to the airport by car uses N Lombard Street.
