Hey everyone, been a couple months since I have posted. I am from CA and want to move to Corvallis. I am a 23 year old Veteran who is interested in going to school again. I am in Corvallis right now looking at different apartments. The apartments sure are cheaper here compared to CA lol! This last apartment that I looked at was Witham Hill Oaks apartments. Good price and I like the fact that it isnt right in town. Can anyone offer and opinions on this place? I loved Grand Oaks apartments but it may be a little too pricey for me.

Also, I am hoping to have a career in something like Parks and Rec, anyone here have any advice on how I can get my foot in the door? Thanks everyone.

I'd start by thinking about what aspects of the job appeal to you. Eugene, for example has separate divisions for 1) parks, and 2) recreation.

Corvallis has, from what I understand, recently downsized it's parks/rec. (And it's a much smaller town than Eugene to start with) So I'd be surprised if they were had great employment opportunities any time soon. They do, however, offer volunteer opportunities:

City of Corvallis, OR : Volunteer Opportunities

If you're interested in the organized sports side, there are a few other ways to go at it. One is through OSU - get a student job working for club sports, or the gym, etc. Talk to the folks who run the gym or club sports and find out what they majored in or got into the business.

The other is simply to take part in local rec leagues and even captain your own team once you have some contacts - it's not uncommon for city staff to be involved and even play on rec teams. But even if you don't meet them socially that way, as a captain you'd be interacting with them and get to see how they manage deadlines/finances/fields/etc.
