I guess it depends on who you know. If you have been there a year and don't know about it, I would guess you don't get involved in local issues much.

So what does it take to be able to call yourself a political insider these days? A couple of failed elections and another one coming up?

You haven't heard about it because it's just a few gasbags blowing hot air.
I can't rep you again so I guess I just have to tell you....

I think I love you!

Hi Blondegirl,

actually, the person I quoted in my last post has lived in Florence for a year. I live in Eugene.

Depending on what you do for work, you might be able to do all right in Florence. There's a casino there that has jobs:

Three Rivers Casino and Hotel on the Oregon Coast - Things are Luckier Here

and some other tourism related stuff.

Thanks Sherwoody!

The drive is a little over 60 miles - quite doable for recreation purposes, but not something you'd want to deal with as a work commute. It's over windy roads on a smallish mountain pass that gets a lot of rain and some snow and ice in midwinter.

Veneta? Junction City? Coburg?

There are plenty of group homes for DD people in the Eugene area, and I see jobs advertised pretty frequently in that field. If you like small-town living, you could work in Eugene and live in any of the three communities listed above...also, those communities might have similar services. You could also consider Springfield.

I'm definitely not an expert on the job market, but I do have the general impression that jobs in your field are fairly plentiful here.

I haven't answered many of your posts, because I really have no idea what you want. "What is Florence like?" is a really, really general question. Are you looking for a job? If so, what kind? Do you have a family? Do educational choices (at any level) matter? How old are you? Are you looking to retire? Are you looking to buy? Are you looking to rent? Do you want a lot of outdoor recreation activities? What kinds? Or are you looking for nightlife? Do you want to be a hermit? Are you looking to be a big part of community? Are you into the arts? Is access to a lot of shops important?

Really, we haven nothing to go on. The very basic is this:

Florence is a medium size coastal town with a large retirement community. It has a small, but nice old town; a good tourist trade that isn't overwhelming like northern coastal towns; there is an active art community; the schools are decent but not great; there is decent amount of shopping so you don't have to run to Eugene for everything; outdoor opportunities abound.
