You have a lot more trust in politicians than I do. If there is a weight/ mile tax, it will be presented to the voters as an alternative to the gas tax. The voters will vote it in and then after the vote discover that the weight/ mile tax is in addition to the gas tax. Since it is painfully obvious that Oregon voters don't actually read the bills that they vote on (I just paid my car renewal-- thanks voters, hope you like the way you stuck it to the corporations).

Gas tax or OReGO, my bill appears to be roughly the same given my driving habits and gas mileage...

What is good in CA is hurried to be adopted in OR, then in WA (They are both 'Me Too!' states).

Recently Happened with very ineffective CARB (and many other useless agencies / costs)

WA refused CARB with the condition that OR not adopt it. So, OR adopted it and WA got stuck with it too.

Or we could have been SMART and instituted conservation and alternative fuels and exceeded CARB benefits tomorrow, rather than millions of dollars, 300 new employees, and 20 yrs down the road meeting CARB.
