Anywhere in Oregon. You will need to get a contractors license if you work for yourself.

Congratulations on your green card. Those aren't easy to get. You should probably ask your sponsor these questions, and of course you will have to settle somewhere near him.

I assume you mean house painter rather than visual artist. House painting in Oregon is mostly handled by independent contractors. Large commercial projects are all union. Check with IUPAT local 10 for membership information.

If you can find somebody to hire you, you can go to work right away. If you need to be an independent contractor, you will have to be licensed by the State of Oregon, which includes liability insurance, bonding and several hours of college coursework on business practices, taxes, etc.

The climate is pretty similar to Ireland, so winter work can be spotty. Wages put you in competition with Mexicans, so they are not good.

If you can find a job in a health club it will probably be steadier and pay better. Don't move to Oregon until you have a job offer.

No, but good luck finding a landlord willing to rent to people with large or "controversial" breeds. If you're buying a house, no problem.
