I currently work for two different companies here in iowa. They both deal with disabilities, one is for children, the other is with adults. I absolutly love the work. And plan on continueing it even when i get my history ed degree. I've tried researching it and can't find any organizations in the area that deal with either children or adults with disabilities. Does anybody know any organizations that deal with this type of work?

Here are some suggestions:
Oregon School of Autism located in Portland Page 1
Oregon School for the Blind located in Salem
Albertina Kerr Centers (Portland-Albany, I believe)
Here is a list of group homes in Oregon Oregon Group Homes Directory Adult Learning SYS of Oregon through Spruce Villa Inc

I did not list any mental health facilities, but there are plenty of residential treatment programs as well. I can give you a list if you need them.

If you want to do something more medical, Providence Portland Medical Center has The Center for Medically Fragile Children at their "Child Center." This is home to about 50 kids, aged 2-21 who have neuro-developmental disorders. There is also an out-patient program. They welcome volunteers whole-heartedly. They have Activity Directors and that sounds like maybe a dept. you may enjoy affiliating with. Also witht the no child left behind act, about 85% of the kids go to school everyday, but those who do not (parent preference) have people from Portland Public Schools come in for a few hours each day. With an ed degree, this also may be of interest to you. Center for Medically Fragile Children

I ran into this post via a google search. I am looking to move to the portland area and am interested in working with kids with disabilities(learning/mental and physical) doing any type of physical activity. Anything ranging from outdoor adventure to sports to camps, trips, and after school programs. Any other suggestions on where to look other than the ones already mentioned? I have my BS in Kinesiology.

Well there are a lot of summer camps for kids. I would check with Easter Seals, and Albertina Kerr.
