my husband and I want to relocate to oregon coast from central oregon. We enjoy dancing, music, walks on the beach, gardening... central oregon winters are too cold and long for us. my husband is a young retired veteran and we have a decent income without work. any recommendations? We were looking at brookings (weather is great for us) but No night life oe music venues at all that we could see.

Personally, I like the Manzanita/Cannon Beach area a lot. Newport is also great as is Florence. Lincoln City has the casino, which brings in some decent acts. Brookings, Gold Beach, Pt. Orford are wonderful places... but with not much going on.

Only Brookings has the "banana belt" effect, so you won't find that kind of weather anywhere else on the coast. Newport has live music at several places, as does Florence.

From what I've seen, no city on the coast has as much nightlife going on as Bend does. But it is warmer there. If you are in Cannon Beach/Manzanita area, you are a driveable distance to PDX for shows and clubs.

As far as I can tell, there is no night life of any sort anywhere on the coast. You don't live on the coast to party.

There are casinos on the coast and there is a night life of a sort there. One of the casinos (in Lincoln City) has concerts, mostly country western stars. There are three restaurants on every block in every town and village and wide spot in the road. There are all sorts of festivals all up and down the coast, but there isn't anything I would consider to be night life.

I'd look at the Rogue Valley, from Grants Pass to Medford. Plenty of music at the wineries and clubs, depending on what type of music you like. Much shorter winter, long growing season but hot summers. No walks on the beach here, but fits other items on the list.

I vote for Cannon Beach. There are music festivals on the coast, the one in Astoria is coming up soon.
