We are looking for a spot to camp near water, preferably near Myrtle Point (Powers is lovely but too far for us). I've spoken with BLM/Feds hoping we might find something free, or with our Senior Passes, at least get a discount.

We want to camp (tent camp), are two, little, old ladies (LOLs) and are very, well behaved, but a lot of adventure left in us

Can anyone give us some good ideas? I know Myrtle Point well as I lived in the area in the 70s. We are in (out of Coos Bay now) and sick to death of the wind. We especially love kayaking, and swimming.

I don't know that area, but a lot of the US Forest Service campgrounds are 1/2 price if you have the federal senior pass. Or at least the campgrounds that don't have full hook-ups can be 1/2 price.

I find that they are not listed that way on the internet, but when you go to pay, it says 1/2 price and the sign-in/ payment envelope has a place for your permit number. Then you have to hang your card on the hang tag in your car so it is visible.

I just got 1/2 price camping this last weekend, expecting to pay full price because it wasn't listed as one of the campgrounds that gives a discount. The discount was listed at the pay station.

Both of the campgrounds that I have used for 1/2 price have nice campsites, but outhouses and no other amenities.

Oregon state has a pass, but I am pretty sure it is just for day use areas. It's not free, either, costing $50 a year. I get my money's worth out of mine because it covers the state owned boat launches, but you'd have to use it a lot to make it worth the purchase price. There is no Oregon state senior pass.

Some of the camping around Ten Mile Lakes by Lakeside, looks to still be pretty fair prices, & FUn spots. Look for cleanliness. Some look to be clean, some aren't...

Be careful kayaking on the river I mentioned PM, it has some class dangerous rapids at times.

I have only driven along the road from Roseburg out to the coast that passes through Myrtle Point. I am guessing that during most of the summer, it has temps somewhat cooler than Roseburg, but not as foggy or windy as along the coast??

We looked at Craigslist but no luck, and can't find a place to advertise "wanted" but we need to find wood, and possibly a larger cooler, stove & lantern? We'd like to find 2nd hand (save the dough) instead of buying from Walmart or Bimart new. If anyone knows of anything, please let us know. This is our first campout in years so we are realizing how much "stuff" we'll need.

Oh, and if anyone has water-wings, neither of us has swam for awhile,
