I am originally from Boise but have been living in the mid valley for the past 14 years. My time here is done. I can't do the grey skies, allergies, and unfriendly people anymore. Then comes my condrumion, my parents live here now and so do my wife's children and our grandbaby. So Medford seems like an acceptable place that isn't to far away from family.

I like the area when i have been through there but never really had a chance to actually check it out. This weekend we are headed to California to visit some friends and are planning to stop in Medford and look around a bit. What is good and bad to see? I want to see what i should and shouldn't. Places to camp and lakes to see and fish would be nice to see also.

Now comes the Boise question; anyone that has moved from the Treasure Valley to the Medford area how do they compare? If it was up to me I would be back in Boise in a heart beat.

Medford winters are much more similar to Willamette Valley winters than Boise winters - just shorter so less wet (18" of rain vs 42" of rain). Medford will also have more fog in winter and a lot less snow than Boise.

High summer temps are fairly similar, although we are in the middle of a record heat wave at the moment, in the last 10 days we have broken 6 record high temps and, more unfortunately, set the all-time record for heat at night (ie: the temps have not been dropping at night as much as they usually do).

It is somewhat more humid here than Boise, but since you are coming from the Willamette Valley, you won't even notice.

As long as there is less rain that is all I care about. i ready to turn in my webbed feet and let the mold fall off of me. The hotter the better. The warmer the nights the better too. I have missed having warm night and days. Waking up from camping in the middle of summer without an inch of dew on you would be nice also.

Allergies are a ***** here. Winters are warmer and less snowy than Boise, but summers are about the same.

sounds great to me. I just spent vaction down south and spent the day in Medford to get a feel for it the Thursday before the 4th and liked what I saw. I also notices my nose and eyes starting to clear up while i was there so maybe there isn't as much allergens that affect me there.

Of the two of us, I probably had the worse allergies in Portland. My allergies started earlier (February) and lasted a little longer (August). He had a couple things he was really allergic to but they tended to last a month or so and then they were done. When we moved over to the east side of the Cascades, I had no allergies but he was really allergic to rabbitbrush.

We've been living in Medford (on-and-off, since we had our old house to sell) since Sept 2013. I have general very mild spring allergies - mild enough that I don't usually take any antihistamines/decongestants to get rid of symptoms - but his have been a little worse and longer-lasting.

So: I think it depends on what you are allergic to.
