They do a lot of reinterpretations as it is - along the lines of "how many years can you put on strictly faithful versions of Hamlet and actually have people still come to see it?"

Nobody goes to Ashland for excellent Shakespeare. It's a family-friendly experience, good to take your kids at least once. Dumbing-down isn't going to hurt them one bit.
