Most of the electricity in the Pacific Northwest is hydro and it is very cheap and plentiful. Gas on the other hand, involves a lot of infrastructure (pipelines) which is very expensive in sparsely populated areas. All-electric homes are the standard where you live now. Some people go the propane route, which does give you a backup when the power goes out (which it will from time to time). Otherwise, get used to living electrically.

We found that too when we moved out here that alot of houses had electric heat. Being from the Midwest, where electric was extremely high, we turned down a lot of houses for that reason. Gas in my experience has always been cheaper.

Congrats on the move to Oregon!! Didn't see where you was from but the only thing I miss from Wi are the friends I've had the last 15 yrs, and "some" family. lol

A gas dryer can easily be modified to use propane.
