Can any one tell me a little about the area. How is the economy there? Are there any good jobs? How is the University there? Crime rate? Thanks.

Many times, people want to hear anecdotal information from those familiar with an area. That's why City-Data has these boards - for the human touch. Data is easy to come by. Personal experience can prove more valuable or place data in context.

The University is a land-grant university with a very good reputation and an impressive array of programs, but the tuition and fees are high compared to many state's land-grants.

Crime is low in Corvallis and it is a very clean city in terms of things like litter and grafitti.

I do not know about the job market there anymore. It has been too long.

Good luck!

I agree and a search will turn up hundreds if not thousands. Many current or even today.

Steve meant the 'search' function on CD, not a general google search.

And while I'm often happy to answer more specific questions that we've answered many times prior, here the OP really hasn't put any effort into the question, and it's pretty broad implying they've done no leg work at all. My answers would be:

Economy is so-so; there are some good jobs (HP, OSU); OSU is pretty good - top in the state in some fields, okay in others; Crime rate isn't much to speak of, but some neighborhoods have higher property crime.

Questions are vague enough that even the answers aren't that meaningful Steve is right that a quick search of earlier threads would have answered a lot of general questions in better detail.

The OP's post is from 2006, and his/her last post on CD is from 2011. Why a two-line question from that long ago got dragged up (and complained about) is a mystery.

Because all that is old is new again and the answers don't change. The question asked was a common one and the answer provided was informational and on topic.

Do a search first. Your answer may be right there.

Many times I would rather have an up to date and personal answer to my question, feeling as if I am speaking with someone in a direct manner. The entire site could easily be directed to the Chamber of commerce. They have most all of the answers about any community. However, speaking, or corresponding with an individual with direct experience is somehow more meaningful. Answering a simple question to someone's query is just more involving and personal. The site is for chatting, It makes me feel like I'm speaking with someone across the fence. I am certain that the OP just wanted to get his questions addressed and open a conversation, rather than being directed to the encyclopedia where he must search for the questions he would have answered. Just my opinion, and where I am at here.
