Live near his station. Ask the other members of his unit for housing leads. Networking can lead you to the best opportunities.

Members of the Coast Guard are held in very high regard. They risk their lives to save others, sometimes people we know.

FWIW there is a Coast Guard Exchange in Astoria. I hear they have very good prices on hard liquor.

The mouth of the Columbia is known as the Graveyard of the Pacific. It can be pretty scary to be on the water and see a 6' tidal bore coming at you. If you ask anyone, the Coasties earn their pay and then some. Your husband will be treated like royalty, and so will you. You are going to have a great time.

Don't think your husband will die. Equipment and communications are much better today, but the waves are still the same.

And on that cheery note...

But seriously, I agree with Nell and Hawk J - Craigslist is probably not going to be where you find leads if you decide on Warrenton. It's a small residential town where most residents are from around the coast.

They're more likely to be networking as well or maybe [maaaybe] the local classifieds: Coast Marketplace - helping you find what you need from local individual sellers
