Freeze-Dried Foods are considered the best long term storage foods.
A brand I've purchased and am very happy with is Legacy - (10-15 year storage capacity) and they also offer gluten-free if you need that option: Best Value Food Storage

The building code has been revised to meet new seismic standards. The big changes have been better foundation reinforcement and anchoring. Many older homes were not well attached to the foundation, just kind of sitting there. There are straps you can use to anchor the wood to the concrete. Garage door openings are a real weak point, and the new code requires special anchor brackets and a shear wall assembly. Water heaters have to be anchored to the framing. Suspended ceilings have to have special connections to the framing. Many of the retrofits are not that expensive and can even be done by the homeowner.

Don't forget to bolt your book cases to the walls. In fact, anything heavy above head height needs to be anchored so it doesn't end up on top of you.
