Not everyone in Oregon is liberal.
The OP has a serious attitude. I can see why he doesn't fit in, in California. I'm pretty sure he would have a worse time in Oregon. I think he would get a very cold shoulder from both Liberals and Republicans alike.

Most people in Oregon (beside the socialist NW section) don't care what you do or how you choose to live, as long as it doesn't infringe upon their rights. You might try, as Silverfall suggested. Are you looking at west of the Cascades or does that matter? Most of the small cities in Central Oregon are a mix of liberal, independents and conservatives and the strange thing about that is, they all seem to get along with each other.

I think that foremost is your skills, are you employable in Oregon. Choosing a city is directly related to your skills.

Good luck,
They all get along with each other, because people don't talk about BS like that. If you want to get along with people in Oregon, talk about anything other than politics or religion. The OP obviously has issues with that.

Eh, the OP isn't eloquent and PC in expressing opinions, but there are people out here that have the same thought process. I think some of the smaller towns would fit the OP just fine.

The OP has lived all over California (according to a post he/she made in the Idaho forum asking similar questions). It seems to me that if you've lived in a lot of places and keep running into the exact same issues, it might be you.

I am not your typical "Californian". I don't care about partying all night, drinking, being loud & rude to my neighbors, road rage driver or acting high & mighty as if I was better than all, which I am not.
I am a quiet introvert, well mannered & old fashion person, as some will say. I believe in fairness & treating people with respect. Privacy & modesty. I have seen many changes over the course of 35+ years. I have seen a substantial burst of growth & the pros & cons that it brings. My complaint is the overall attitude of the "I don't care about you, it's all about me, I'll do what I want, when I want" people have nowadays, especially in the area I reside in. California is officially the Entitlement state. There is no consideration, common courtesy, because yes, I want to hear your music until 2am....everyday... The diversity of where I live is 75% of one particular race. I would consider myself culturally diverse as the majority of my family were born outside of the USA. (No, not Mexico, sorry Mexico fans...) I love a melting pot of many cultures, within reason of course, it brings a flavor of tolerance & respect for one another & we can definitely learn & apply it but come on... 75% in entire county, more or less.

My question:

I am looking for a new state/city I can finally call home. I have never felt at home here. I just don't "blend in" or can lower my self to be someone I am not. My priorities are as followed. Affordability (more bang for my buck), a safe area, and like minded people who have core values. I am NOT a liberal or affiliated with any political party. If anything, maybe more moderate or independent?? I would prefer to live on the Western portion of the USA since I love nature & the ocean but at this point, anything must be better than California!?

I apologize if I offended anyone but it's hard not too since I really don't belong here and not a "true" Californian and I often get told to leave then. I can't just be laid back and act like this is normal behaviour to treat people like crap. What happened to good ol' friendly people and respect? Scotty, beam me up Hopefully I can find a descent area where people are more respectful. I tend to keep private anyways as long as your business doesn't creep inside my home, we're good.
I think your post was polite and honest. You received a few kind replies and some info. You can live where you want and should. I can understand Portland may not fit your comfort level. That's Portlands problem not yours. Quite frankly Portland needs to actually be more open to different viewpoints, because it really is not.

You could try the outer communities of Portland, including SW Wash. Or other areas of the state. Take a trip up and spend time and talk to people. See how the place would feel if you actually lived there.

Don't ever let someone tell you you won't fit, when you have a desire to do something. Just follow your heart and your instincts and you will know what to do. I think Oregon does meet your wants, so let's hope you find that community to live there.

Best of Luck
