Retired vet moving to Yachats soon and would appreciate your experiences with the VA healthcare in Newport. Also looking for good ophthalmologist, family practice and dentist. Thanks for any information.

I use the clinic and am very happy with the Dr. He had concerns about some spots on my liver from a CAT scan that wasn't checked when I was in Grants Pass so he wanted it rechecked. I had it rechecked and found the spots were the same and of no concern but my bladder cancer had returned. I wouldn't have known if it hadn't been for him. I've had 3 months of chemo and surgery, I'm doing great now. Grants Pass wouldn't have had it done.

I haven't been to the Newport VA Clinic.

My Ophthalmologist, (Dr. Appleman) had a VA van drive me from the Roseburg VA Hospital to the Eugene VA Healthcare Center, where she did my Cataract surgery. My eyesight is much better now. All the folks there have treated me exceptionally well, with much respect & great care.

Thank you RTG and Hawk for your replies - it's very good to know. I see they have built a new VA hospital in Eugene. My biggest concern is to have someone follow my retinal issues.

I'm sure you will be fine. But be prepared to have to travel inland for some services.

I've had no problem with the Newport clinic, except when they bill my private insurance, for my service-connected disability services.
