Yes but Eastern Washington Univ. is within easy commuting distance of Spokane. It would be the WA equivalent of Chico State more or less. Since the OP lives in Chico that should give them a frame of reference.

And?
They said they wanted cheap living, not a free education. How much do you think a small private university in Oregon is going to cost?

Also, EWU is about 8k a year for tuition, and there are two community colleges in Spokane to transfer from as well. As another poster pointed out, it's a short commute from Spokane to the main campus in Cheney. We're talking like 20 minutes or so from downtown Spokane, and there is also a Spokane campus as well.

I'm told EWU has quite a few good medical programs as well as top rated business and engineering programs. It's something worth taking a look at. A friend of mine that's a physical therapist went to EWU and loved it.

Well if they can afford Gonzaga...they don't need low-income housing.

Because people pay out of pocket for their educations these days

Loans, grants, or mommy and daddy is how most students pay for college in 2018. Gonzaga is actually in a crappy part of Spokane, and many of it's students live in cheap housing off campus, particularly law students that don't come from money.

Also, Gonzaga isn't even the most expensive college in Spokane. Whitworth is. Gonzaga's average tuition is mainly up their because it's a prestigious law school and has a large number of international students attending.

No place that has everything you want exists. You are going to have to pare it down or prioritize that huge wish list to find much of anything. Every place has sunsets. Everyone wants safe areas. Everyone wants lower costs. Everyone wants some degree of beauty.

Eugene, OR ranked 2nd in the nation for availability of housing. (Seattle was first.) I should say lack of available housing. Of all the housing in the city of Eugene, on average only .6% of that housing is available to buy or rent. There's a lot of competition. So if you decide to relocate here, keep that in mind. https://www.realtor.com/news/trends/...ght-inventory/

This article in ou local paper says that in Oregon you need to make at least $21,26 per hour to earn a living wage and afford housing here. Housing crisis is nationwide - Opinion - The Register Guard - Eugene, OR

We have jobs, but either they require a specific skill set or they are min wage that will make it difficult if not impossible to afford the high rents here. We came here about 15 years ago because my husband had skill sets that they couldn't find in the local workers pool. So they started looking outside the state of Oregon and found my hubs.

I don't like posting negative things about my beloved Oregon, but I also have seen things change so rapidly just in the short time that we've lived here. That other poster was not exaggerating about people moving here and ending up on the street. Unless you have family or friends to stay with, or you end up returning back to where you came from. Or living in a camping trailer until you get lucky.

We have urban growth boundaries, and we also have limits as to how high we can build structures as well. And we've been very slow to infill and also tear down old eyesores to create new housing - and when we do it's rarely (if ever) affordable unless you receiving government aid and qualify for low-income housing or section 8, etc.

Sorry to be a bummer, but it's important to know what you'll be getting yourself into.

It looks like you expect allot, maybe you'll find most of it some places and some of it in all places. Not sure the goofey part matters, we have all kinds strange weirdo's living here. But moving here isn't for everyone, you may not like it better than what you already have. Housing is getting harder to find and more expensive. Winters are harder and good paying jobs are fewer.
