I wonder how built up sediment would be released to flow downstream, and what has built up in that sediment over the past century.

That might seem like a wonderful idea on the surface, but it would drastically change the lower Willamette (and possibly the lower Columbia) for decades to come.

Here's an interesting article about Willamette Falls:

This article has a good aerial picture:

BTW, the correct pronunciation is:

Will-AM-it.
With the emphasis on the "am" which is rhymes with Lamb.
Say it like this: Will-Damn-it without the "D"

i hope not. the falls would be so spectacular if cleaned up as a natural site. Lots of native fishing and culture happened there, it really could be a good end of Oregon Trail supplement and attraction. On the native side of things. Especially if it had a burial ground nearby. Hopefully they are still into the sacred and would preserve that whole area.

Grand Ronde town isn't exactly a huge natural or significant cultural attraction, but the Falls are. So i would think they'd treat it differently. The various bands and tribes used to hold powwows in the area too. That would be a cool place to revive that as a central hub maybe.
