Does the mill in Toledo smell bad? I'm thinking of renting a place there, but lived near a paper mill when I was a kid and remember hating the stench. I've heard it's only stinky in some parts of town (southeast?). Is there anyone who can give me first hand info.? One of those things you can't figure out on-line or over the phone, really.

To LindaWH:
There is a paper mill near where I live that betrays its presence from time to time. I have lived in the region since 1969 and have noted over the years the stink is less offensive. I do not think my nose has gotten used to the odor but believe there has been some odor abatement and pollution controls installed.
I can't speak as confidently for the Toledo mill but I visit the place frequenty and have never smelled a thing. A caveat....I have never been there when there has been an inversion and the fog lays its heavy hand across the city. There might be problems then.
Hope this helps, FV

Thanks! I may just have to go out there again before making a decision. (Good excuse for a coast trip anyhow, huh?)

I have relatives in Toledo and a college buddy living in Newport. I have not smelled the odor from the G-P facility in a couple of decades. I think you'll be fine.

Angry Toledo Stink

Toledo still stinks. We were there last week. Can't believe that an odor like that is not unhealthy.

Yep. It's a sulfurous smell, and it exists in some parts of town more than others. But just because you can smell it, doesn't mean it's in high enough concentration to do much harm. That said, I live nearby and would never live in "Toileto".

Opps, a revive to rant about Toledo. I doubt she will answer since her last post anywhere was 2008.
