The deadline to have a Real ID-compliant driver's license has been pushed back from Oct 1 2020 to Oct 1 2021 - since it is really questionable whether Oregon is going to start issuing them in July this year as they were planning, that is actually good news.

On the other hand, the State Dept has announced they are no longer processing passport applications or renewals, so if you are like me and had an expiring passport (Dec 2020) that you are holding on to so that you can use it as ID for the Real ID, you need to watch the calendar carefully, lol, to do the "ID dance."

According to an article in the Oregonian, the state expected something like 950,000 people to apply for Real ID, which meant that if they started bright and early on July 16, they were going to have to process one every 30 seconds to meet the 2020 deadline.

I was wondering if they would extend the Real ID deadline. I let my passport expire, but I have a V.A. identification card. I checked, and as far as I can tell, V.A. cards are good for Real ID.

I am now wondering if the State will reconsider the new disposable plastic shopping bag law. Stores are not packing reusable bags because they carry germs. California, the first state to outlaw disposable bags, has now outlawed the use of reusable bags.

The reusable bag as germ carrier was brought up when the law was being considered by people opposed to it, but I thought it was a little far-fetched at the time. Now I think the law should be rethought.
